What
Advantages does the UD Truck have versus a conventional truck?
Ans. The following are four very important
reasons why the UD Truck with a Cab Over Engine design is not only popular, but advantageous.
-
Outstanding
Maneuverability - Compare the turning radius of any UD Truck with a
conventional cab truck. Both trucks are equipped with the same size body,
but the UD provides better turning radius. The COE design allows for:
Therefore: LESS TIME SPENT MANEUVERING = MORE
PRODUCTIVITY.
- Improved Weight Distribution - Compare
the weight distribution of a UD with an equivalent conventional cab truck.
Keep in mind that a 16-foot van body requires a conventional cab truck with
a wheelbase of approximately 206 inches. While the same application would
require a UD3000 with a wheelbase of only 147.6 inches. The COE design of UD
Trucks allows you to transfer more weight to the front axle. The benefit of
this feature is MORE POSITIVE STEERING CONTROL AND LESS POTENTIAL FOR REAR
AXLE OVERLOAD.
- Excellent Visibility - Have you ever
tried to park a conventional cab truck and wondered how close you were to
the curb or the truck next to you? In a conventional you have to look a good
distance ahead before you can see the road surface. UD Trucks have
outstanding visibility. Both forward and downward side-to-side because you
do not look "around" an engine compartment. Better visibility
translates into MORE CONFIDENT & SAFER VEHICLE OPERATION.
- Excellent Engine Accessibility - The
difference is obvious. EASIER MAINTENANCE. Resulting in fewer labor hours.

Do
I need a CDL for my UD Truck?
Ans. For Trucks registered in the state of
New Jersey, only trucks with a GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of 26, 001
pounds are required to have a CDL. Currently, the only model UD meeting this
criteria is the UD 3300. UD trucks with the optional Air parking brake do not
need a CDL because the service brakes are not full air (with the exception of
the UD 3300).

Does
my truck need to have a New Jersey Diesel Emissions test?
Ans. Only trucks with a
GVWR of 18,001 pounds are required to have a New Jersey Diesel Emissions test.
UD 2000, 2300, 2600, & 3300's will have to be inspected annually.
Contact our service Dept. if need to have this inspection performed. We are a
licensed NJ Diesel Emission Inspection center.

Does
my truck need to be inspected?
Ans. Yes, any truck with a GVWR of
10,000 pounds & up needs to have a Federal inspection done annually. All
UD's will need to have this inspection done annually.
Contact our service Dept. if need to have this inspection performed.

Am I required to have a DOT number?
Ans. Yes, any truck with a GVWR of
10,001 pounds & up needs to have a USDOT number. All
UD's will need this number for travel in the U.S. to avoid paying fines.
